Sneak Peek

The small apartment is slowly but surely coming together.
I thought I'd take a few pictures and show my favorite parts.

Mirrored Bedside table (via Target) Vintage Charleston Postcard of Villa Margarita and teeny Wedgewood box I've had forever (I use it store bobby pins, etc) and a lovely alabaster lamp that Mother and I snatched out of the mountain house.
Stacks of Design and Fashion books under my Coffee Table. The Avedon Fashion one is a favorite. I often peruse it just for fun- the images are so fantastic and I'm very sad I did not get to see the exhibit when it was NYC- hoping it makes its way to DC sooner than later.
My closet is my favorite place. Its literally bigger than my kitchen in terms of square feet. My monogrammed hangers are also another favorite element. They make my closet feel nicely organized.
My big elephant decal from Etsy that is over my TV. It paisley (love love) and adds a bit of color to an otherwise all white wall with some unsightly cracks (the disadvantage of living in a 100 year old apartment building...)
My Faux Bamboo Chinese Chippendale chairs. I was soooo lucky to nab 2 of these off of Craigslist!! Mother sent me the yellow and white fabric and had previously made the pillow for me from a silk skirt that I loved but was unfortunately too big. It worked out quite nicely, I see the pillows everyday where the skirt was just an occasional piece. I've always thought I wanted to get the chairs painted, but I really think the natural wood finish has really grown on me.

More pictures to come as everything comes together!

150 Years Ago Today....

South Carolinians got together in Charleston to sign a document that would forever change American History. The Union was dissolved with the signing of the Secession document. Just a bit of South Carolina (and American) history (proof that you can take the girl out of SC, but you cant take SC out of the girl...)

2010 Christmas Card

This year I commissioned Dawn of Lydia & Pugs to create my Holiday Card. I was very, very, very happy with the outcome. I sent in a photograph of a beloved Milly dress that I wore for my 21st Birthday to be the dress, and requested that she also do a landscape of DC in the background.

Snowy Weather Essentials

Thursday brought the first accumulating snow we've had so far in DC. Just enough to be a nuisance and cause slushy roads and icy sidewalks. While I do like the occasional snowflake, massive amounts of snow (snowpocalypse and snowmageddon) are not my favorites. I've been trying to be more positive about the winter by remembering I get to pull out some of my favorite winter footwear.

Tory Burch Duckboots
(When snow is under 4 inches...)
Navy Blue Hunter Wellingtons
(for feet of snow... or just when I feel like tromping through the snow more!)

Gift Swap Ideas

Last weekend a girlfriend of mine had everyone over for brunch and a "dirty santa" swap. I was beyond freaking out a few days before and had NO idea what to bring. I had considered picking up a bottle of Veuve (always a classic as far as I'm concerned, especially now that you can nab them in these cute mini refrigerators at Pearsons on Wisconsin . However, divine inspiration came when I went to Williams Sonoma and found their Hot Chocolate. Cute and fun. However, then the sales girl really gave me a good idea ... to buy the Whiaphol (alcohol infused whip cream!!) to go with it. I picked it up at Pearson's as well. It went over VERY well, and was the first item that was picked and that also got swapped twice so that it was "frozen"! I was pleasantly surprised with my little find. Does anyone have any good swap ideas?
